VNUS Closure®

The VNUS Closure procedure is a minimally invasive treatment alternative with less pain and less bruising when compared to traditional vein stripping surgery and laser treatment. Using the Closure system, physicians close the diseased veins by inserting the Closure catheter into a vein and heating the vein wall using temperature-controlled RF energy. Heating the vein wall causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins.

The vein closure procedure treats venous reflux disease in superficial venous system, often the underlying cause of painful varicose veins.

The Closure procedure is performed on an outpatient basis. Using ultrasound, your physician will position the vein Closure catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by radio-frequency(RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall. As the thermal energy is delivered, the vein wall shrinks and the vein is sealed closed. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins.

 

Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site, and additional compression may be provided to aid healing. Your doctor may encourage you to walk, and to refrain from extended standing and strenuous activities for a period of time.

Endovenous Laser Treatment Overview

Our laser vein treatment is done with the Sciton JOULE™. This is the most advanced high frequency laser treatment today. It is a safe, fast and effective solution for treating venous insufficiency and is performed in the office. With only local anesthetic, a fiber is placed in the vein and the heat generated by the absorption of laser energy closes the vein. The 1319 nm wavelength targets water in the blood, which captures heat in the vein and, since treatment temperatures are lower and injury to surrounding tissue is minimized, patient satisfaction is significantly higher compared to older and less sophisticated lower frequency systems.

 

Science + Technology

The Sciton ProV 1319 nm laser provides effective endovenous laser ablation of abnormal refluxing truncal veins. Absorption at 1319 nm occurs in the hydrated endothelial cells of the vein wall. 1319 nm is highly absorbed in water which enables a comfortable treatment for the patient, and causes minimal post-op swelling and bruising.

The 600-micron laser fiber is placed into the incompetent vein through a catheter up into the sapheno femoral junction. Ultrasound is used to confirm the correct location of the fiber tip. With ultrasound assistance, tumescent fluid is delivered along the exterior of the saphenous vein.

As the fiber is pulled back, the heat generated by the laser ablates and collapses the vein wall, resulting in complete vessel occlusion. The blood is automatically re-routed through healthier veins, and the restoration of normal circulation resolves the bulging varicose veins and other symptoms of venous insufficiency. The ablated vein is eventually absorbed by the body.

 

Endovenous Laser Treatment for Venous Insufficiency

Mechanism of Action

The Pro-V laser uses a 1319 nm wavelength, the optimal wavelength for fast and comfortable endovenous laser ablation. Absorption of laser light occurs in water within the vein and vein wall, and the heat generated by absorption of laser energy contracts and collapses the vein wall. This halts the formation of future varicosities and results in complete vessel closure. With blood flow to the insufficient vein interrupted, the pooling and bulging that causes varicose veins will begin to subside. The ablated vein is absorbed by the body and blood circulation redirects itself to healthy veins.

 

 

Sclerotherapy

Spider veins are small red or blue blood vessels that appear at the skin's surface. They are commonly found on the legs but can also be found on the face or other areas of the body. Sclerotherapy involves a sclerosing solution that is injected directly into the blood vessel with a very fine needle, causing the vein to seal shut. The treated vein will collapse and fade from view. Depending on the size of the vein, several treatments may be needed several weeks or months apart. Sclerotherapy can be used on all skin types.

 

Laser Vein Treatment

If you want to safely and effectively remove unwanted spider veins, our Laser Vein Treatment may be your answer. Laser Vein Treatments are a fast, effective way to treat superficial small and medium sized spider veins. The laser uses a focused beam of light to selectively target the pigments of the blood to heat the unwanted vein. This seals off the vein, leaving the nearby skin tissue undamaged. The treated vein then dissolves and fade from view. We use the ClearScan™ laser to precisely treat visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins and vascular lesions. Your treatment will be tailored to match your condition and desired results. The procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area being treated. There should be little to no discomfort, but this varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for anesthesia. There is little risk associated with this treatment, although multiple treatments may be necessary depending on the desired results. Recovery time depends on your actual treatment but there is virtually no downtime and you may resume moderate activity immediately. You may experience some redness and you will need to avoid direct sun exposure unless using a sun block of at least SPF 15.
